MR.LAW Accident & Injury Attorneys founder Damon Mathias was recently featured by FOX 4 News in coverage of a high-profile case involving three bounty hunters accused of kidnapping the wrong man in Richardson, Texas.
As reported by FOX 4, Damon Mathias represents 22-year-old Hussein Alsaadi, an aspiring barber who was forcibly taken from his home and wrongly identified as a murder suspect thousands of miles away in Iraq. According to police reports, the bounty hunters, contracted by a bail bond company, stormed Alsaadi’s home while he was cutting a client’s hair, detonated stun grenades, and held guns to his head before abducting him in a U-Haul van.
Investigators later confirmed through fingerprinting that Alsaadi was not the fugitive wanted for capital murder. Despite the clear misidentification, the violent encounter left Alsaadi and his family shaken. His father, who had moved the family to the U.S. after relatives were kidnapped and killed in Iraq, was brought to tears recalling what could have happened had events escalated further.
Damon Mathias on Accountability
In his interview with FOX 4, Mathias emphasized that bounty hunters must be held to the highest standards when exercising their authority:
“That job comes with heavy responsibility. And that cannot be taken lightly and cannot be callously, Oops I got the wrong guy’ after you’ve done something like that.”
The incident, which was also captured on home surveillance video, has led to felony aggravated kidnapping charges against two of the bounty hunters, with a third suspect still at large.
